White jasmine is inseparable from Pakistani culture: its garlands adorn weddings, receptions, and shrines. Its fragrance, more intense at nightfall, symbolises hospitality and purity. In the Indian subcontinent, it has been cultivated for more than three thousand years. The plant is also central to the attars — traditional concentrated perfumes — produced in cities like Kannauj.
